Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need curling experience to join?
Not at all! New curlers are always welcome. Whether you’ve never curled before or are returning after a few years away, there’s a place for you at the Club.
Do I need a full team to register?
No. If you don’t have a team, fill out our **“I Need a Team”** form on our Home page and we’ll do our best to match you with other curlers looking for teammates.
Can I register as a spare?
Yes! If you can’t commit to a full season but would still like to curl, sign up through our **“I Want to Spare”** form located on our Home page. We will contact you if/when we need an extra player.
How do I register?
Registration is completed online through our website.
STEP 1: Navigate to the main registration page by clicking “Registration Now Open”.
STEP 2: Add your league(s) to your cart. Please note that if you are curling twice a week in the Daytime League, you will need to add both the Tuesday and Thursday leagues to your cart so the applicable discount(s) apply.
STEP 3: You will be prompted to login. Use the same email that you have used in the past, as your curler profile is already completed if you curled with us last year. A login token will be sent to this email to be used as a 1-time password to login. Or create you profile if it your first time curling with the Melfort Curling Club.
STEP 4: Update your curler profile, as required.
STEP 5: Choose Continue Shopping to add more leagues to your cart.

Choose to how you would like to pay - either at the Club or online via credit card.
If you aren’t sure if did it correctly or have questions, choose the PAY AT THE CLUB option and talk to Gerald or contact him at manager@melfortcurling.com
Can I curl more than once a week?
Absolutely! The more leagues you curl in each week, the greater the discount you’ll receive on each additional league you add. Make sure you add each league you want to play in during registration, so any applicable discounts are calculated correctly.
Do I have to pay CURLSASK and Curling Canada fees?
Yes. Curlers age 12 and older are required to pay an $18 membership fee. This includes $13 for CURLSASK and $5 for Curling Canada. The fee is collected through the club registration and is separate from your league fees.
What equipment do I need?
Wear clean indoor shoes (mandatory), and comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily. We’ve got curling equipment available at the rink for free. We also do have a small Pro Shop with a selection of curling items for purchase.
Do I need curling shoes?
No. Beginners can start with clean indoor shoes and a slider. If you decide to curl regularly, you may eventually want to purchase curling shoes.
What should I wear?
Dress in layers. Curling rinks are cool, but you’ll warm up while playing. Stretchy pants, a sweater or light jacket, gloves, and clean indoor shoes are good choices.
Is curling difficult to learn?
Curling is easy to start and takes time to master — that’s part of the fun! New players quickly learn the basics of delivering a rock, sweeping, scoring and game etiquette. Join our Back to Beginners league to start learning!
How long does a curling game take?
Most league games take approximately **1½ to 2 hours**, depending on the number of ends and the league format.
What happens if I can’t make one of my games?
Please contact your teammates and arrange for a spare. We will also provide a spare list to help you find a replacement.
Teams are expected to find a spare rather than cancel a game. A cancellation can affect several teams and disrupt the schedule for the entire evening.
Can I join after the season has started?
Possibly. It depends on the league and available space. Contact us and we’ll see what options are available.
Are there leagues for beginners?
Yes! Back to Beginners (12+ and adults) and Youth (7-18 years old) leagues are perfect for beginners! If you’re unsure which league is right for you, contact us and we’ll be happy to point you in the right direction.
Can younger players curl?
Absolutely! Our Youth Curling Program offers instructional lessons for youth ages 7–18, with participants grouped with others of a similar age and skill level.
New this year, youth ages 12+ can also join our Back to Beginners program if they are new to curling or would like to build their skills and confidence.
Curling equipment is available to borrow free of charge.
Do you offer rentals or private events?
Availability varies throughout the season. Contact the club for information about ice rentals, private events, corporate events, school groups or other bookings.
